Shops, cafes, Cadera restaurant/bar, surf club (patrolled in summer) and Mahy reserve and playground are right on your door step, across the road. There is a surf school at nearby West End beach. Walk to secluded Otarawairere Bay or the nearby Fairbrother Loop at the bottom of Ohope hill. Nearby is the Nga Tapuwae o Toi and Kohi Point walkway from Ohope to Whakatane. Ohiwa Harbour with boat ramp, fishing, water sports , kayak, SUP and e-bike and scooter hire, is a ten minute drive away, as is the Ohope golf course. Over the summer months, Wharfside Port Ohope is open, there will be food trucks, live music and a pop-up Mata Beer Bar over the holiday period. Whakatane is a six km drive away over the hill with restaurants, cafes, shopping and boat ramp. There is another boat ramp at Port Ohope. Try Whakamax with five movie screens, or the Aquatic Centre (large waterslide) to entertain the kids if the weather is wet. Just a bit further afield, try the Awakeri Hot Pools. The local berry farms serve amazing ice creams, Julians Berry Farm, Blueberry Corner and R n'Bees Berry Farm. Pick your own strawberries at Julians Berry Farm. They have a petting zoo for young children and mini golf Blueberry Corner also has a cafe and playground for children. Take a tour boat trip out to the bird sanctuary at Whale Island (Moutohora).
