About this Holiday House

You know you are doing things right when you receive a Christmas card saying that our accommodation was the highlight of their New Zealand visit. Only metres from Motukiekie Beach with its sea stacks and starfish (Search for images of Motukiekie). Away from the commercial hustle and bustle of touristy Punakaiki but only a short scenic drive away. Tucked in native bush, waterfalls tumble down the cliffs. Great sea views. Lovely garden. A perfect peaceful base. Unspoilt beach and beautiful sunsets. You may stumble upon seals on your walks along the beach. Occasionally we see little blue penguins. Stay a bit longer you will be glad you did. This spacious downstairs apartment is a part of our holiday house in a private garden, just a few steps from one of New Zealand's best-kept secrets: The sea stacks of Motukiekie beach. The house is in a rustic little lane along one of Lonely Planet's top 10 coastal routes in the world. You can light a bonfire from driftwood on the beach or in the little log burner in the lounge. When the sea is calm you can gather mussels at low tide and spot the many starfish. You may meet Honey a super friendly Labrador or our Springer Spaniel Charley. We have just listed on this platform so not many reviews. Here are 2 from another booking platform. Fabulous apartment in a magical location. The Apartment is well set up and equipped with lots of personal touches and a cupboard filled with board games puzzles and books. A memorable place. The location is truly breathtaking - a few steps to a beautiful beach, a waterfall by the side of the house, a lovely little garden - truly one of the best places we have ever stayed. A little piece of heaven on earth! Stunning location.. incredible beach walk with surprises around every corner. So relaxing sleeping with the sound of the ocean and waterfall. Definitely stay more than 2 nights..there is sooo much to explore! We loved every minute of our stay. A place your soul can recharge. House has everything you could need and is cosy and comfy. The downstairs apartment has views of the sea through the trees. You are most welcome to watch the surf and the sunsets from the top deck which has a 180 degrees view over the Tasman Sea. Access to the beach, you will find the access 5 Meters north of the letterboxes just outside the lane. If this access is too difficult, walk or drive 500 Meters to the North and you will find level beach access. We live in Christchurch and we have built the house about 9 years ago as a holiday home, occasionally we will be using the upstairs apartment, but most of the time you may not see us. Of course, you will always be able to contact us; there is wifi in the apartment. We find good communication important and we aim to respond to emails within hours. Located only metres from beautiful Motukiekie Beach, halfway between Greymouth and Punakaiki, it's the perfect base for West Coast activities. The house is in a small community with 8 other houses, you may meet some of the neighbours, there are no fences but please respect their privacy. from publications: "Motukiekie Beach would have to be my favourite location on the South Island, l know that's a big call but Motukiekie has everything l could ask for, rugged coastline, giant rock stacks, moody weather and starfish". Another site lists Motukiekie beach in the top 9 beaches of the world. Look for Motukiekie online and you will see. Try to arrive before low tide, you would be so disappointed to miss the beach walk. We honestly recommend to stay at least 2-3 nights you will not be disappointed. A highlight in Barrytown is making your own knife. You will need your own car. There is car parking in the carport and in the lane immediately in front of the house. You will find a small dairy and fish and chips shop in Runanga, which is 10 minutes drive to the south. Have a true coast pup meal in Rapahoe or in Barrytown (all Nations) Greymouth has two supermarkets which close at 9 pm, a number of restaurants and cafes. If you come from the North best to stock up in Westport. The house is only a few kilometres away from access to the Croesus track and the Point Elizabeth walkway. There are many other bushwalks nearby. Other things to note The house is not far from Punakaiki and Paparoa national park. There are plenty of walks in the bush and on the beach. We recommend you to stay for 2 or more days, as suggested in many reviews of our guests. Plan the tide, blowholes in Punakaiki at high tide, our beach at low tide. Please note that you should only go on the beach near the Sea Stacks within one and a half hours either side of the low tide. There are tracks from the beach along the way, but they are not signposted and some are hard to find. You can go on horse tracks or make your own knife in Barrytown. Guests often ask if we can recommend places to visit. There will be lots of suggestions in the apartment.
