Muriwai Beach is a coastal community roughly a 40-minute drive from Auckland. It is part of a breath-taking coastline stretching 60 kilometres, interrupted only by streams and rivers with a long black sand surf beach. There are trails to a gannet colony that is on the cliff-tops below the house. The colony is unique because of its easy access and how close you can get to the gannets. There is a huge variety of walks; including a boardwalk that hugs the coastline and plenty of off-leash dog walking. There are many mountain biking trails and it is near to Woodhill Mountain Biking Park and Tree Adventures. Much of the land at the southern end of the beach is part of the Muriwai Regional Park which includes an 18-hole true links golf course. There is a horse park, horse riding and 4WD access to the beach. Also paragliding, hang gliding, beach and rock fishing, body surfing, boogie boarding and an highly regarded surf school. There are many excellent delis, cafes, restaurants, vineyards, music and festivals in the surrounding area.
