About this Holiday House

THE HILL COUNTRY HOMESTEAD BnB Farm Stays - Events and Venue Hire in Tahora, Eastern Taranaki, (Whangamomona area) North Island of New Zealand Welcome to our place ... a beautifully restored 1920's Californian Bungalow set between two 100+ year old Copper Beech trees perched on a hill top on 200 acres of rolling hills and stands of beautiful bush. We have spring water so clear, clean and delicious to drink and all of this in a wonderfully scenic and interesting location. This magnificent property has hosted many types of situations and is renowned for being just a bit special. There is a magic about it which starts on the drive out when it is not unusual to see wild goats, sometimes deer ducking off into the bush as you drive through. We are off the beaten track so you need to fill up with gas, make sure you have the tucker and supplies you want because it is about an hour and a half to the nearest shop. Alternatively you can organize with the hosts to be catered for with beautiful home grown food from the land. The spectacular view over the working sheep and beef farm is beautiful in all weather conditions. This unique property, hosts a wonderful eclectic mix of vintage treasures. In conjunction with the homestead there is further accommodation, the Wai Whare, commonly known as the bunk house. Combined, this helps sleep larger groups of people. The land plays host to some wonderful farm walks and offers a tranquil setting for time out. It is a place for children to get back to some simple play time and for parents to enjoy the peaceful feeling of days gone by and separate themselves from their usual stresses. We live on the property in the Shearer’s quarters which is down the drive way from the homestead ensuring privacy for all parties. Because of the location we have no cell coverage at the farm, although there is a landline available. Surrounded by detailed hills the property is a visual feast for all, offering wonderful photographic/painting opportunities. There is a lot to explore both over the farm and in the surrounding area and we offer a big collection of books of all kinds to lose yourself in. We also have TV for those of you wanting some of your home comforts. We believe that the simple things in life bring the most joy. Our life style is a blend of the old and the new. It is like going back in time some 50 years, a time warp in the nicest possible way. On a crystal clear night at the farm you see stars so bright and the sky so black, it is magical. So, if you need some Country, some bright stars at night, a place to have space for yourself to awaken your senses and restore your energy, you’ve hit on the spot. Take a break from your journey on the Forgotten World Highway 43 - and stay at The Hill Country Homestead At the end of the day, you have a beautiful elegant homestead with all the required amenities

I cannot recommend this warm welcoming homestead enough, from the moment we drove in the drive it was fantastic. Deb and Kerry are fabulous hosts and for my large extended family it was the perfect place to make memories share food and laughter, enjoy the incredible scenery and the amazing hospitality. We were taken on a great walk over the farm which we all loved and Kerry is full of knowledge and a great storyteller. The house is inviting, the beds are so comfy, the spaces for everyone to hang about together in are wonderful. We all really enjoyed our stay at Tahora and hope to be back another time YEEHA
Response from Owner
We enjoyed you and the family just as much as you enjoyed being here, you were delightful to have around, intelligent interesting people with a love of nature and a good laugh. We loved how respectful you were of the property and of our space and we hope very much that you will come through again. Thank you also for being so easy to communicate with and for organizing the whole event to take place with us. Go well. Ye ha!
