Winner of two 2018 NZIA Architecture Awards. The Brown House is an iconic Nelson historic settlers building with a rich and colourful past dating back to the 1860’s. In 2017 the house had an extensive renovation and modernisation completed to the highest standards. It is now a unique and luxurious urban short-stay option for those guests keen to be right in the busy heart of Nelson’s vibrant city-life, while enjoying high quality accommodation. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and can be configured several ways, sleeping up to 6. There is a fully appointed modern kitchen, spa pool, UFB Wi-Fi, 55" TV with Freeview, Netflix and NEON, an upstairs sun-soaked veranda and a courtyard below. The main bathroom is modern and huge with large bath. All bedrooms have direct bathroom access. There is secure off-street parking for 2-3 vehicles. There is wheelchair ramp access from rear carpark and wheelchair friendly car park area. There is good wheelchair egress through the house. Please check photos to see if ground floor bathrooms are suitable for your accessible needs, or enquire. Secure bike storage and bike wash facilities. Not suitable for small children.

Super king room can be split into 2 king single beds.

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

The neighbourhood: The famous Nelson market is across the road and Nelson’s award winning Zumo coffee house, Tozzetti Bakery and Theatre Royal are close neighbours. We are near art galleries and several great coffee houses. Nelsons restaurants, bars and shops are minutes away so you can leave the car behind if you want to sample our local brews. There are 2 supermarkets a few minutes’ walk away. Getting around: Nelsons central bike and walking trails are all close by as is bike hire and transportation to the Abel Tasman and other local destinations. Bus and taxi minutes away. Nelson CBD is on the doorstep. Bike Friendly accommodation: We welcome cyclists with open arms and have secure bike storage and bike wash facilities as well as a hydrotherapy spa for the end of the day. There are several excellent bike shops within 100m too. The Great Taste Cycle Trail starts a few hundred metres away. Central Nelson MTB trailheads also a rideable distance away. The house is in a busy part of Nelson and is very secure, however the property may not suit small children/toddlers as has a staircase and fronts Rutherford St which is busy at times. Although the house has intensive modern insulation and is fully double-glazed throughout, you will get city/traffic noise in the background at certain times of day, as you would find with any inner city apartment or hotel.
