Wow, what a fantastic place! Don't be put off by the lack of reviews. This place is exactly what it says it is, with remarkable views and a very modern setup. Arrival and checkout went smoothly, with the owner providing access without a need for interaction. Communication was excellent and payment was processed without a hitch. The listing photos are exactly what you get - though the limited frame size of the shots don't do it justice. This house sits high atop one of the smaller peaks in Wanaka and is higher than the surrounding houses/buildings, so views of the lake and mountains are unobstructed from the top floor. There's an excellent BBQ and outside deck to eat on, with views and easy access right off the kitchen. There's also a large number of other decks on the top floor, giving you access to views on all sides. Off street parking was excellent with a private driveway (including half of a two-car garage), though it's a little tight at the top, making turning around a bit of a struggle (but manageable). Mt. Iron is directly out the front side of the house and Lake Wanaka fills the view from the entire back portion of the house. WiFi was extremely good throughout the house and very speedy. We had construction at the road where they were putting in a new fiber optic Internet line for the community, so I suspect that it will be even faster some time in the future. Heating and cooling were very good, with wall heaters throughout the bedrooms, electric blankets, and a wall A/C unit (with both heat and A/C) for the main living space upstairs and another one on the second floor that worked very well. There is also a wood-burning stove in the family room with plenty of firewood available in the garage from the owner. We never used it but assume that it would be very pleasant in the colder winter months. The kitchen was very modern, with all amenities (though missing steak knives - an oversight easily remedied) and a number of staples available (oil, sugar, salt, sauces, etc). Bedrooms were clean and simple, and bathrooms were mostly modern and had heated floors and towel racks. The single complaint about the house is the extremely low water pressure. It wasn't possible to use any two items simultaneously. If showering, a toilet flush stopped the flow of water to the shower completely. Washing clothes resulted in the inability to flush a toilet, etc. Even with only one thing in use, the water pressure was so low to make showering a chore. Hot water wasn't an issue - just enough water. Overall, the low water pressure was the only negative about the house. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat and the views alone made up for any deficiencies. The yard space was quite nice but the outside decks allowed you to view almost all sides of the house and surroundings. Wanaka is easily accessible (though what in Wanaka is far from the rest of it?) and even though the main road (Anderson Road) is a somewhat busy street, the noise couldn't be heard from the bedrooms or other parts of the house, due to the distance and well-sealed windows keeping any noise out (though this may be an issue in the summer possibly, with open windows at night). Wanaka is a lovely town, though it's now turning into a tourist mecca, with tons of yuppie stores and restaurants, and crowds of visitors clustered in the main areas of town. It's the perfect spot to explore the region and the house is a fantastic base of operations to set out in any direction.
Response from Owner
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We are working with the council regarding the water pressure situation as there appears to be an issue. We will have it rectified prior to the ski season!
