About this Holiday House
The Red Barn is a rustic, purpose built barn house set in stunning mature bush on a 6 acre property consisting of bush, pasture and Avocado trees. The property is bordered by extensive bush reserves and the Kaimai Forest Park with views out over the Tauranga harbour and Pacific ocean and a peak of the harbour through the bush from the top deck of the Barn. Even though it's secluded, you're only 20 mins by car to Waihi Beach, 30 mins to Tauranga and access to kilometres of bush walking and mountain bike tracks. The property has an abundance of wildlife and is set in heritage grade bush. You will see and hear many native birds such as Tui, Kereru, Fantail, Kaka and Morepork as well as our resident family of California Quail and numerous other visitors. Extensive pest and possum management has lead to a healthy and thriving eco-system. The Barn itself is basic but cosy, warm and always clean. It's well insulated and therefore not damp and comes with full cooking facilities. The owners would like to be clear that the layout is OPEN PLAN however you can turn it into two rooms by sleeping some downstairs. This may not suit all groups but feel free to discuss your requirements with us. It is ideally suited to families of up to four or five that want to spend some quality time together and is also ideal for couples.
Many of our guests remark on the unique and lush bush surroundings. One Rimu tree on the property is a giant and is estimated at approx 600 years old. There are at least 3 other large Rimu's around the 300 plus mark. Nikau palms are in abundance and this reflects the mild/sometimes wet micro-climate.
Another aspect often remarked on by quests is it's appeal for kids with plenty of space and freedom to stretch their legs and minds. For those from an urban environment, the Barn is a great place to connect with nature and a rural way of life.
Many of our guests are regulars who have stayed multiple times over the years.
