About this Holiday House

Furneaux Cottage is the perfect retreat all year round. It is only two minutes’ walk from Arrowtown’s main street with stunning views up the Arrow Valley. It offers style and tranquillity in the renowned, historic former gold-mining village. Furneaux Cottage is a large original miner’s cottage located within the Historic Zone of Arrowtown. Perfectly positioned for enjoying Arrowtown’s sophisticated attractions, Furneaux Cottage is only moments away from ski fields, vineyards, golf-courses, rivers, lakes, biking & walking tracks, cafes, and delightful shops. It is also only twenty minutes drive to the buzz of Queenstown. Enjoy the cosy wood-burner on a winter's evening after an exhilarating days skiing at one of the three local ski areas. In the summer sit in the sun and admire the stunning view up the Arrow Valley from the sheltered back garden. Cycle or stroll two minutes down the road into the village and sample the local wines. Cool down by taking a swim up the Arrow River, in Lake Hayes or at the local pool. Furneaux Cottage offers three beautifully presented bedrooms and bathrooms – the master bedroom with king bed and full ensuite, a queen bedroom with ensuite, and a twin bedroom with two king single beds with a full bathroom (bath and shower) next door. There is enough room to sleep six people so it is ideal for a group of friends or a family with children. Every comfort and luxury has been considered, with crisp cotton sheets, fluffy towels, and a wonderful wood-burner, 2 heat-pumps and electric blankets to keep you warm all night in the winter. The stainless steel eat-in chef’s kitchen leads on to a cosy library. The spacious open plan living and dinning area has french doors opening to a sunny, sheltered garden with uninterrupted views of the Arrow Valley. There are large tables for both indoor and al fresco dining. Furneaux Cottage was originally owned by miner Furneaux Smith (1839-1913) and is one of Arrowtown's protected historic cottages. Furneaux Cottage is unavailable for rent from mid-March to mid-December 2016. It will be available as usual again from mid-December 2016 onwards. We can be contacted right through the stated period for bookings ahead of this time. The place surpassed our expectations. Our family plus my mother stayed (3 adults and 2 children) and we had ample room/space. The place is a marvellous mix of modern comfort but keeps the miners cottage history. The location is excellent: only 4-5 mins walk to the centre of Arrowtown. The pictures do not do it justice. Totally recommend!! We hope to stay here again someday.

This place is fantastic! The pictures do not do it justice. Comfortable, inviting, spectacular setting and views and only a couple of minutes walk into the town centre (and the Fork and Tap!). Thanks!

This house is amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. There were three adults, two children, and one infant, but we never felt crowded. The house is spacious and well appointed with beautiful linens on the beds and plenty of space to spread out. The master bedroom is huge and the bed was so comfy I was very hesitant to leave it every morning. The kitchen is wonderful and has everything you could need to cook during your holiday. We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Arrowtown.
