We had a lovely one night getaway to the cottage. It was comfortable and well appointed. The stereo system was amazing. We enjoyed watching movies from bed and peak of sea view from the bed. The spa outside was very private and all ready to go when we arrived. It was 3 minutes walk to the beach and the shops where we had fish n chips for dinner. Good kitchen for a studio unit. Great shower pressure. The hosts were away but got in touch to make sure we were ok. Highly recommended
A sad waste of time. We booked this 3.5 months in advance in emails with the owner. He had mentioned he would be away but that the manager of his property would have it ready for us. we were to stay monday to friday for our anniversary. we drove 8 hours from Auckland to the cottage. We stopped to get groceries at Masterton then 45 minutes later arrived. We looked for the key where we were told it would be and it was not there. we proceeded to look under all the items and nothing. then when we looked in the window we could see that the bed was not even made up. I phoned the numbers we had available and managed to get hold of a colleague of the owner who put us on to their daughter to be told that we did not have a booking. Their daughter was not in the area so had a neighbour come over who offered her cottage for the night and we went home the next day very sad and let down. This was the worst cottage experience I have had in the years I have been cottaging and would not recommend at all.
Response from Owner
I'm afraid I am human and put my hand up for mucking up a booking for the 3rd time in 20 years of running Haystack which in that time we have had hundreds of very happy guests - many who return multiple times. I took the booking in advance knowing I would be overseas but had a plan to make it available. I then blocked the time out we were away on the booking calendar but then forgot the booking and thought there were no bookings as we left to go overseas - my mistake I obviously regret and could not believe when I heard. When the guests turned up with the above scenario it clearly was not ready. I was uncontactable but my daughter arranged to put the guests in the very nice Cobwebs neighbouring us for the night and said she would come out from Masterton first thing in the morning to have Haystack ready. My daughter arranged to contribute towards the night at Cobwebs and had the offer of staying in Haystack for three nights been taken up once hearing about the situation I could have sorted it to make all happy. The guests though elected to not take up the offer so the chance to try and rectify the situation was gone. I was gutted to hear of the muck up but feel with a little understanding it could have had a better ending and obviously would have loved to give the guests a great stay!
Thank you Adrian and Julie :) My partner and I loved staying at the haystack cottage. The spa under the stars was amazing and all ready to go when we got there. We were excited about the little breakfast cereals! Everything you need. Comfy bed too:). Very private out the back. Just wonderful. Very warm room with a heater provided and loads of movies to choose from. Adrian and Julie are wonderful. There if you have any queries and great recommendations for the area of Riversdale. Views of the beautiful beach from the room which was awesome. Had an amazing time and would definitely go back again. Highly recommend. Thank you again guys. Cheers!
