On Colville Road, 13 km north of Coromandel town centre, 2.5hr from Auckland airport. This is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. Excellent fishing locally with paid boat ramp access 200 meters; swimming beach access straight across the road, local bush and river walks; wonderful sea and island views from shared gardens and lookout. Enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkelling, beach rambling.
A perfect place to explore from in any direction. Go north 15 minutes to Colville township with its cafes, art gallery, general store, tennis court, horse riding and specialty shop. Drive 30km of spectacular coastline further north on the west past the granite wharf, Fantail Bay, Port Jackson to Fletchers Bay where you commence the stunning Coromandel Coastal Walkway. The eastern side 20km will take you to Port Charles, Stony Bay, Tangiaro Retreat, Waikawau Beach down to Kennedy Bay. Go south15 or so minutes back to Coromandel for all the shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafes and attractions of the township, especially Driving Creek Railway. Then venture south out of town to the 309 for the Kauri Walk, the waterfall, Waiau Waterworks, see Stu’s pigs, and maybe check out the Muscle Kitchen. Pop over to Whitianga enjoying Whangapoua , New Chums beach, Kuaotunu (highly recommend Lukes for pizza). A bit further on to the acclaimed Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove. Coromandel town is approx. 17mins; Colville village 15 minutes; Hot Water beach 1hr 20, Cathedral Cove 1hr 30 from Puriri Retreat.
