DO NOT RENT this place if you want a hassle free rent. We have rented many bach’s over the years and never had an experience like this. The Bach is nice and Castle Hill is a fantastic location. I can not recommend a visit here enough! I would however recommend choosing a different Bach. The key was couriered to us to our address in Christchurch arriving the day before we were going. This arrangement took several, unnecessary emails over several days despite us having paid the full rent and ‘refundable’ key deposit on booking. The key arrived with a comprehensive instruction list, including comments about their previous bad experiences renting out the Bach. The Bach was nice however needs a deep clean. The windowsills were covered in flies and when we moved the sofas to vacuum it was clear it hadn’t been done for some time. The dishwasher didn’t work which is okay but we weren’t informed. We were Instructed to drop the key back to the owners house in Christchurch and it was fortunate that we were heading back. If you are on a longer trip I’m not sure what they would want you to do but I’d recommend checking before you hand over any money. This was out of our way but we dropped the key to their home address. We left a note to inform the owners of the dishwasher fault and also to let them know that the drains did not seem to be draining properly. I received an email apologising for the above. A week later I had not received my ‘refundable key deposit’. I emailed to ask for it and was told they had never received the key. Having personally dropped it off (with the note which they already acknowledged) I know this is not true. If I hadn’t dropped off the key why had they not emailed me to say so? There are plenty of places to rent in castle hill so I would recommend avoiding this one. Disappointed
Response from Owner
Thanks for coming to stay. The key was never returned and your almost abusive response when we asked why was not welcomed. Thus we decided to discontinue communicating. DRains had just been replaced by council and they had made a fault with laying this has since been rectified by council. Thanks for leaving 3 windows open, and the dishwasher full of silver beet and vegetables which is why it did not work. The excess food has blocked the pump and the dishwasher has cut out. Sadly we get the odd complaint I think this is the 2nd in all the time we have been renting our home.

Great place! Big, beautiful and well-appointed chalet with easy access to hikes, climbing rocks and Arthurs Pass. All the comforts of home, with a better view. The kids playground with trampoline half a block away was very convenient. David is very helpful and a great fishing guide. Thanks again!

This is a well equipped, warm and comfortable house. The fire was much appreciated as it snowed whilst there, plenty of wood was provided and we enjoyed our stay. The list of "instructions" was somehat comprehensive and arranging the key and the payment was dealt with by the owner who we found to be rather disorganised and abrupt.
Response from Owner
Sorry for the delay in responding to your comment. At the time that you rented I had just had my second heart attack and so yes was somewhat disorganised. I am sorry for that. If you rent with us again we will certainly be much more organised. Thank you for your rating it is much appreciated and we are content that you enjoyed our home. Regards and best wishes for a lovely Xmas David
