Governors Bay is located approximately 20 mins drive from the Christchurch City centre.
There are good walks in and around the Bay, both along the waterfront or in the surrounding hills and bush.There are also many mountain bike tracks. Governors Bay has a small tidal swimming beach- Sandy Bay, as well as a playground at the local school and new tennis courts at the domain.You can visit the famous gardens of Sir Miles Warren at Ohinetahi Allendale mid Sept- mid Dec and Mid Jan- mid March.
Nearby, the historic port town of Lyttelton has several good cafes and a Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. From Lyttelton you can catch ferries across the harbour to Diamond Harbour, Quail Island and Ripapa Island.
Other nearby attractions include Orton Bradley Park which has a collection of historic buildings, picnic and BBQ spots and numerous walking tracks including Mt Herbert- the highest point on the peninsula. There is horse trekking at the park and an adjacent golf course.
