Lake edge, beach, and own jetty. The shack is an original 1920's kauri fishing lodge that whilst retaining its character and atmosphere has been quietly updated with small touches.
Summer, sleep on the balcony with the windows folded back, kayak along the lake edge to the local store or relax on the beach while your children play or master the kayaks or rowboat. Winter, laze on the balcony bed, read beside the open fire, enjoy a hot pool (across the lake by boat) or swim in the soda springs (8 min drive).
You are welcome to use whichever of the Rowboat, 3 kayaks, are available(at own risk).
Some care is needed with small children due to the house being lake front and like many Lake Rotoiti houses alongside the state highway (there will be some rumbles early weekday mornings from logging trucks passing through).The house though is fenced and gated from the road and the balcony has a 'stable' door designed to assist with keeping our own small children and toddlers in.
A living area with open fire opens out onto the balcony room with bifolding windows over the lake.
The 3 bedrooms are small but well appointed with quality duvets, bedside lamps, electric blankets etc. The balcony bed is sought after for starlit winter and summer nights. The original kitchen has mostly new appliances (no dishwasher). Separate laundry, toilet and shower.
Boat launching at Gisborne Point or Hinehopu, The Shack has its own jetty for overnight mooring.
Our Rotorua based bach manager will greet and farewell you. There is an optional $50 cleaning charge for those who dont want last day cleaning hassles. (But you are still expected to do dishes and leave the house tidy for the cleaner to come through).

Rates: There is an optional $50 per stay cleaning charge (You do dishes and tidy up/put items away but our cleaner will vacumn, wipe, mop etc.) There is a $25 per bed charge for linen hire. This includes all bed linen, bath towels, t towels and beach towels. Sorry we get too busy to supply linen over the xmas/summer holiday period and prefer large groups to supply their own.
Minimum of 2 nights stay except over summer holidays/easter when minimum is 5 nights, holiday weekends 3 nights.
Weekly rates are negotiable outside the summer peak. "Make an offer"

We spent a very relaxing 3 days at this unique bach with visiting friends from the UK. What a magic spot and bach is well equipped with everything you may need. Hope to stay again in 2011.

Nearby attractions & activities
Local store for fish & chips, newspapers, ice-cream within walking/kayaking distance. 2 kms to Hinehopu public 9 hole golf course. Approximately 10 kms to the Hells Gate Volcanic Reserve and Waiora Spa. Approx 5 kms by road to waitangi soda springs. 20 minute mostly lakeside drive to Rotorua's restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions and a perfect base to explore Tauranga, Whakatane and Taupo (approximately an hour each). 35 minutes to pukehina surf beach. No sulphur smells. No TV, no playstation, no phone.
