A short paddle upstream from Takou Bay, Takou River Cottage is a beautiful and secluded riverside retreat set amidst 5 acres of sub-tropical gardens on the banks of the Takou River.
"...a place of absolute blessed escape..." NZ Herald on Sunday
Takou River Cottage is light and sunny and has its very own private romantic al fresco claw foot bath perched on its private north facing sun deck. The deck is completely private, faces north and is a lovely sun-trap with views across the gardens to the river. The cottage itself features rich native (matai) timber floors with bright kilims and cosy rugs in a lovely open plan living, dining kitchen area upstairs which leads onto the sunny north facing private upper sundeck with bbq, tables, chairs and of course the bath. A newly installed wood burning stove means the cottage is also perfect for a winter escape. A secret stairway leads from the deck to a unique private look out tower with seats and views across the gardens, river and beyond. Antique Rimu stairs lead from the living area to a spacious hallway with antique pew and artifacts from Turkey and central Asia. The hall leads to the 2 en suite bedrooms, with super comfortable king & queen size beds, fine linen, feather pillows and duvets, bathrobes, cotton throws and more colourful kilims and rugs. The bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms, with bath and showers. The bedrooms lead directly onto a small garden which leads into the extensive 5 acres of sub-tropical gardens and down to the river just a minutes wander through the gardens.
River Cottage is perfect for a couple looking for a romantic break and also has the space and privacy for 2 couples sharing or a family group.
