Snapper Bach
at Waikawa Bed & Breakfast

A modern fully self-contained seaside holiday house particularly suited for visitors intending a slightly longer stay.
(.. but always remember we do have Bed & Breakfast accommodation as well.)

Located midway between Hicks Bay & Opotiki, Snapper Bach at Waikawa B&B is central to a stretch of pristine coastline regarded by many as the most scenic section of the East Cape Pacific Coast Highway .. ideally positioned as a base to fully explore this spectacular corner of New Zealand dominated inland by the rugged Raukumara Ranges.

In a delightfully secluded setting just 200m off State Highway 35 and little more than a stones throw to the waters edge, Snapper Bach enjoys the enviable reputation of offering unrivalled waterfront tranquillity, comfort & accommodation.

This holiday house has been specifically designed to reside in close harmony with the surrounding coastal landscape – the purpose built semi-rustic exterior in fact mimics to a degree the iconic "Kiwi Bach".

With two bedrooms - one queen & two single beds, Snapper Bach comfortably accommodates up to four adults or small family groups.

Apart from food everything including quality linen, bedding, towels etc are provided. Other features include a private bathroom and shower, fully equipped kitchen with microwave and electric hotplates, all dinnerware / cookware and large fridge with freezer.

A well furnished open plan dining / living room with glorious outlook to bush clad hills & sea glimpses leads out to a sunny spacious deck, outdoor furniture, barbecue, and of course .. the soothing sound & sense of the sea.

Stroll through landscaped gardens to the clifftop lookout .. a driftwood seat beneath the dappled shade of magnificent ancient Pohutukawa .. breathtaking sunsets .. sea birds & fishing boats .. the tidal surge of water across rocks.

Stunning views to the active marine volcano White Island quietly steaming on the horizon .. and if a lucky day that very special sighting of Orca (killer whale) cruising past just offshore.

But that's only an introduction ..!

At gardens end & cliff edge, steep stone steps lead down to a wild driftwood/seaweed strewn private rocky bay & pebble beach.

Scuba dive or snorkel the edge of our reef for lobster .. fish from the rocks or row the dinghy out .. explore the coastline by kayak (we have two) .. search for sea shells or simply lay back with a good book, glass of wine and breathe in the clean sea air, the solitude & natural beauty of this coastal paradise.

.. Other activities might include a picnic excursion to the East Cape Lighthouse .. a chartered fishing expedition from Waihau Bay or an exhilarating jet boat ride on the mighty Motu River .. perhaps lunch at the Macadamia Nut Orchard garden cafe overlooking beautiful Whanarua Bay .. go bush walking, river or beach swimming, horse trekking, or take a guided scenic walk with a local exponent in East Cape Maori history and culture.

Local amenities in Te Kaha (less than 8ks drive) include a first class waterfront licensed restaurant and bar, café, takeaways and groceries.
