Skip's is a casual 2-bedroomed self-catering cottage in an enchanting bush setting on Stewart Island. Enjoy a beautiful outlook to old rimu trees and native bush reserve, and fantastic bird-watching.
Skip's is well-equipped and ideal for groups up to 6 (more is a bit of a squash, but we have a sofabed in the lounge). It is 2 mins walk from Paterson Inlet (beach, fishing and kayak hire), 5 mins from Golden Bay (water taxis to Ulva Island bird sanctuary), and 10 mins from Halfmoon Bay. Linen, transfers, refreshments and fuel provided.
Please note: Skip's has a modern flush toilet but it is accessed from outside the back door. There is no oven in the kitchen. Only Telecom cellphone coverage available.

Skip's has the feel, in the best possible sense, of a treehouse or a tramping hut, without any of their limitations. Relaxing in the lounge, the view out of the large ranchslider gives a peaceful feeling of being in the treetops, and the cosy seclusion and casual atmosphere is reminiscent of a welcoming hut at the end of a day's tramp. Our guests comment on the total silence and blackness at night, brilliant for star-gazing.
You will also be visited by friendly parrots called kaka, on the look-out for a snack. Fantastic bird watching - as well as the kaka you can see tui, fantails, wood pigeons, weka, tomtits, sometimes a rare stewart island robin visiting from Ulva Island, and you can hear the kiwi calling in the reserve at night.
