Mount Maunganui "Mauo" itself has many picturesque walks as well as New Zealands best surf beach. Tauranga - across the Harbour, has many Art Gallery's as well as great shopping.
Rotorua which is an hours drive away has many tourist stops - Geysers, Maori cultual entertainment, etc..
