Kowhiti is a landmark country property a few minutes walk from the main street of historic Greytown in the Wairarapa. It is close to the vineyards and wineries of Martinborough and Gladstone, and one hour by car from Wellington.
The house was planned as a beautiful rural retreat for memorable social gatherings. It is a contemporary, private and sophisticated home in which groups of family or friends stay together to celebrate a reunion, birthday, a small wedding, or simply a perfect weekend. For a big chill weekend or corporate retreat Kowhiti would be ideal.
Luxury group accommodation is provided for sixteen guests in eight bedrooms, six of these have an ensuite and two have a shared bathroom. An additional bunkroom sleeps five and is close to an eighth bathroom.
Kowhiti has a feeling of light, relaxed spaciousness. The large sitting, television and dining rooms, as well as large open veranda, provide multiple spaces allowing guests to relax or socialise as they wish. The sitting room is large enough to provide a suitable space for a small conference or meeting.
Fully self contained and private, Kowhiti is surrounded by two and a half acres of young cider and heritage fruit orchard, a large lawn and beautiful swimming pool. The pool is solar heated during the summer months.
Because food and wine play a central role in social gatherings, the indoor and outdoor areas have been designed to provide the perfect space for shared, elegant dining. The kitchen is a place where guests will want to lend a hand and is equipped with everything needed to prepare fabulous meals from the region’s produce. We can arrange for superb professional catering by some of Wellington and the Wairarapa’s best chefs as well as provide guidance to help you source local produce for self catering. We can also provide you with recommendations for local restaurants, cafes and farmer’s markets. Kowhiti’s own cider may also be available for you to try.
Every effort has been made to make the luxury accommodation of Kowhiti ecologically sustainable. The house is heated using innovative solar and heat pump technology to run hot water radiators, and the orchard is carefully managed on organic principles.
As guests you would have the property entirely to yourself. We will do everything possible to make your stay as perfect as we can and can provide every assistance sourcing food, wine, catering and other necessaries if you request it, but essentially Kowhiti is yours for the duration of your stay.

Rates: Kowhiti is available for two night (minimum) rental at $2500 per night, inclusive of GST, for a maximum of 21 guests. Special rates may apply on a small number of dates during the year. If you wish to use Kowhiti for any purpose other than accommodation (such as hosting a private function, small wedding etc), this must be discussed prior to booking.

Cancellation policy: If we are able to replace your booking, no cancellation fee will apply. If we are unable to do this however, a cancellation within 8 weeks of the intended date will be charged a 50% fee, and cancellations within 4 weeks charged a 100% fee.
