From Queens Wharf to Oriental Bay, the waterfront right opposite offers numerous activities and experiences including Te Papa and the Maritime museum, rock-climbing,canoeing, in-line skating, crocodile biking, skateboarding, pool (Freyberg) and sea bathing.
All Wellington's live theatres, cinemas, concert and performance venues (Michael Fowler Centre, Opera House, Town Hall, St James, Circa Theatre, Downstage Theatre, Bats Theatre, TSB Arena, Civic Square, Embassy, Reading and Paramount cinemas are within a few minutes walk. It is about a 15 minute walk to the Westpac Stadium, aka the 'cake tin'.
For fine dining, the Hippopotamus restaurant in the Museum Hotel next door is recommended - their 'high tea' is a special treat, as is the superb, eclectic New Zealand Art collection on display. Courtenay Place offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes and pubs to suit most tastes and budgets.
