Wheturangi Farmstay, $110 - $170

287 Okoki Road, Urenui
Ref #: 12641
.. a peaceful rural retreat. Wheturangi Farmstay is situated in the sheltered Okoki Valley, 3km inland from SH3 and 6km north of the popular beach resort of Urenui. The self-contained cottage (available for rent) is reasonably private with a sunny aspect, simply furnished, has views of native bush including plenty of nikau, cordyline and flax, and a well-stocked organic potager garden/orchard. Doors open on to an open deck, BBQ area and para-pool so not suitable for young children. The old homestead (main house & owner occupied) was built in 1910 and has been added to over the years. Situated on 10 acres of mixed rolling pasture, beautiful mature magnolia, camellia, walnut & fig trees grace the grounds around the main house, along with pockets of native bush, a natural deep water spring (well it is at the moment!) and pond all of which provide colour & interest year round. There is plenty of bird-life around, space to amble and is an idyllic peaceful rustic retreat. It is off the beaten track but still close proximity (in a car) to a spectacular range of outdoor activities that North Taranaki has to offer such as the White Cliffs walk, fishing & diving, tramping (hiking), swimming, surfing, whitebaiting, caving, golf to name just a few. In addition, 'just down the road' there is White Cliffs Brewery, the Wai-Iti Beach Retreat and Cafe, Waiau Estate Cafe & Restaurant, Sentry Wines - for delicious fruit wines/ports, plus an easy 25 min drive into New Plymouth itself for all those fab festivals. It also has a busy port, an amazing museum, very cool stores, Pukekura Park, the Bowl of Brooklyn ....
We believe in slow travel & slow food so would prefer if you stayed for a min of 2 nights so that you can relax and get the most out of the region. A 20% loading fee will be charged for 1 night bookings. Extras: We are happy to arrange breakfast provisions at $20pp.
Smoking allowed outside only. Due to close proximity of pool, ponds & a deep open spring children must be watched at all times - we take no responsibility for injury or loss. Mobile coverage is unpredictable in this area however we generally can get a signal from somewhere on the property... it's just a matter of finding it when you need it! Access to the internet - there is a free service at the Waitara Library where you can nip in and do your business.

"We had a fantastic stay. The bach was well equiped and the children loved the "farm lifestyle", especially helping each morning to collect the eggs. We were all made very welcome and look forward to staying again."
