Nestled between hills and Nelson city centre, this historic cottage is located in the safe, friendly residential neighbourhood of The Wood. Only ten minutes walk to Nelson city centre, the cottage is a private, peaceful and cosy home away from home. Offering the styling and quality furnishings of a boutique b&b at a fraction of the cost, this self contained cottage is ideal for couples looking for a romantic get-away or central base for exploring the Nelson region.

Retaining the original facade from 1866, the cottage has been lovingly renovated to provide a welcoming environment. The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with luxurious linens. The living room has a TV, Freeview, DVD and stereo. There is a collection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for guests’ enjoyment and WiFi access at a small additional charge. The well equipped kitchen includes pantry basics such as tea, coffee, flour, seasonings, olive oil, etc. A sunroom with dining table and sofa overlooks the hills and lush private sunny garden.

The cottage is perfectly situated to explore Nelson’s rich array of boutique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants a pleasant ten minute walk away, including Hopgoods Restaurant - winner of Cuisine's Best Casual Dining award. This is a great base from which to explore the wider region – Mapua, Kaiteriteri and the Abel Tasman National Park - taking in wineries, galleries, beaches and beautiful countryside.

Closer to home is a dairy, post office, the Organic Greengrocer, a day spa, and the Sprig and Fern tavern (a tiny pub with old-fashioned hospitality, open fires, boutique beers and board games). Take a walk along the beautiful Maitai River, stroll through the Queen's Gardens and Chinese Gardens, visit the Suter Art Gallery or Founders Historic Park and climb to the Centre of New Zealand for magnificent views over Nelson city.

The name Strupak Cottage (pronounced stroo-pack), is the Gaelic word for "tea, scones and conversation" offered to passing travellers.

Feedback from guests:

We just adored being there and wouldn't hesitate to return when back in Nelson. We couldn't fault it and think you have done it so tastefully with wonderful quirky things. Judy and Dick, March 10

This bach is wonderful. It is a historic building but has all mod cons. It is in a great location, an easy ten minute walk into town. We loved the cottage and could have happily spent all our time in Nelson in it however, there is much to do in the area to lure you outside. It is only a short drive to the Abel Tasman national park and a stones throw away from many wineries. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to New Zealand. R Flack, Feb 2010

Thanks so much for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage. We loved it so much. As soon as we saw it we wished we could have had longer there. Unfortunately our holiday is drawing to a close but I may well take you up on the offer to rent again as I suspect we could be back! M O’Brien, Feb 2010

"We thoroughly enjoyed our all too brief stay at Strupak Cottage - everything was perfect. We are already looking forward to a return visit." Barbara

"Exceptionally well appointed, everything provided for the discerning traveller. Very private backyard, for outdoor dining, entertaining. Owner, Roz, most helpful." John and Ellen Simpson

"Strupak cottage is very comfortable, nicely renovated and so convenient to Nelson City, the Queens Gardens, The Suter and other amenities." N & S Hodgson

"We loved our stay in the cottage - it was just perfect. Thank you very much." Jason & Morag

"Thankyou so much for having us at Strupak. We love everything about this cottage, from the art to the curtains to the soap! We hope to see you again." Matt and Thalia

This is a lovely place to stay whilst visiting Nelson. 10 min walk to the centre. Super Fish and Chips and PO 1/2 minute down the road. The house has a warm feel to it and is well equipped. We felt very comfortable there and enjoyed our stay.
