Great beaches in Riverton, sandy or rocky, and close by within 10 minutes drive. Great surf spots in Riverton and surrounding areas - Porridge for example. Half an hour's drive from Tuatapere, the beginning of the Hump Ridge Track. If you're into skiing, Queenstown is only 2 hours drive away, base yourself in Riverton for a much cheaper stay. Te Anau - hour and half drive. Stewart Island, an hour to Bluff where the ferry leaves. Half an hour's drive to Invercargill.
