The harbour is great for boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, great bush and beach walks/exploring, and plain ol' lazing around.
Things to do in the area include, the south head walk, Waiotemarama waterfall walk, Labyrinth puzzle shop, Morrells cafe, the world famous "Footprints Waipoua" guided night tours of the kauri forest to see Tane Mahuta, "Lord of the Forest". "Crossings Hokianga" guided harbour tours stopping at various historical spots on the harbour, and "Hokianga Express" to go boogey boarding down sand dunes (always a child favourite). There is a 9 hole golf course and Boatshed Cafe at nearby Rawene (15mins). The car ferry is available here to take you to historic Kohukohu where there are cafes and arts.
